Our apologies for a very brief report this month, the time just flies by and with holidays and busy, busy lives it’s not been possible to get the group together for our monthly meeting so we might be missing some information about donations. If we are, sorry, but it will all come together next month.
Thank you to the friends and family of Sheila Cope from Sheen for a donation in her memory of £340 also a donation of £30 in memory of Evelyn Blackhurst from Warslow. We very much appreciate being thought of at these sad times but the donations keep our group running and able to help local people in an emergency, a worthy legacy. Thank you Longnor Post Office collecting box for £8.53.
The group are planning to have a display at Longnor Sports and the Longnor Christmas Market just to let people know what we do and to hopefully do some recruiting. For a variety of reasons we have lost a lot of volunteers over the 10 years the group has been running and we are getting smaller and smaller which puts a lot of pressure on the few of us remaining. Please come and have a chat with us and we might even take your blood pressure if you want!

Another month has flown by and we’re still making the same begging noises for new responders to come forward. Too few of us are trying to give the best possible cover we can but it could be so much better if we could get some new blood or maybe get some ex responders back with us. There are two levels of responders now, advanced and intermediate. The commitment to training and exams is not as great for the intermediate level but they are not allowed to administer drugs or carry out some of the procedures advanced responders are trained to do but their skills are still vital and life saving and this does suit some people. Please think about it and encourage anyone who shows the slightest interest!
We met Emma Wentworth on a very wet and windy day at Flash to receive her £800 London Marathon Money, a brilliant effort and a big boost to our new vehicle fund, thank you. Emma lives in Knotbury and she kindly gave us a tour of the area and showed us how to get to some places that look so close but have to be approached from the least obvious direction! It was a big help and hopefully we won’t struggle so much to find people and places in that tricky area. For all of us names on gates are the important thing to help us find you in an emergency as well as clear directions and a good local landmark.
Waitrose in Buxton have our group as one of their nominated charities for the month of August. When you shop there you can ask for a token to place in a collecting box and at the end of the month, according to how many tokens, we receive a cheque. If lots of us do even a little bit of shopping in Waitrose in August it could be a rather handsome cheque.
